Looking to stay at hotel brands beyond Marriott? In my opinion, Aeroplan HotelSavers is a great option since it partners with 11 major hotel chains. When I first got into points and miles, I was a bit disappointed to see that we don’t have all the hotel-branded credit cards that the U.S. has, but Aeroplan HotelSavers helps fill that void. When booking, you’ll want to look for the little red “HotelSavers” indicator. If you hold an Aeroplan credit card, you can get the 4th night free. Aeroplan breaks its hotel redemptions into eight categories, and within each category, there’s a points range. As we see with other points bookings, the number of points required will usually be higher during peak travel times.

If you’ve ever been to Banff or Lake Louise, you may have seen the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise and thought, “I’d never be able to stay there.” I’m here to tell you it’s possible with Aeroplan HotelSavers. That being said, prime time can be close to 100,000 points, but if you go in the off-season, it’s around 60,000 points. As a Canadian this feels like a truly aspirational hotel and I love that it can be booked with points and miles.
I understand if you don’t want a snowy vacation but there is options all around the world. Since Aeroplan is such a big company they have hotel partners in Dubai, Mexico, even Greece. Aeroplan partners with CIBC, TD, and American Express. They break their credit cards into three categories: Entry Level, Core, and Premium. You can earn one welcome bonus per level per lifetime, and it doesn’t matter which bank you choose. Picking the right card will depend on your lifestyle and which benefits are most important to you. Personally, I got the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite as my Aeroplan card because it includes free checked bags for up to nine people on the same reservation. At that time, I was just starting out in points and miles, and the annual fee felt reasonable but the welcome bonus wasn’t very big. Since then, my husband has gotten the American Express Aeroplan Reserve Card when there was an elevated welcome offer. It’s a premium card with a much higher annual fee, but the welcome bonus made it worthwhile. Ultimately, you need to pick the card that best suits your lifestyle and spending habits, but it’s worth noting that American Express often offers higher welcome bonuses.
